Murcia wines are regulated by three designations of origin: Jumilla, Yecla and Bullas. The Monastrell grape variety and the rest of the red grapes stand out in an area characterized by its temperate climate and excellent harvests. Appellations of origin are responsible for guaranteeing the origin and quality of wines. The Jumilla Designation of Origin extends throughout the commune of Jumilla. The predominant grape variety is Monastrell for the reds and Airen, Macabeo and Pedro Ximénez for the whites. The introduction of other varieties, mainly Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah in the reds, gives excellent results. Jumilla wines have achieved a high level of recognition in the Spanish wine scene. The Yecla Designation of Origin includes exclusively the municipal area of Yecla. Monastrell is grown for reds and Macabeo for whites. Their wines aged in American and French oak barrels have brick tones and vanilla nuances. It is an Appellation of Origin in full expansion and with a bright future. Bullas Denomination of Origin wines are made from grapes from vineyards located in the municipalities of Bullas, Cehegín, Mula, Pliego, Ricote, Calasparra, Caravaca, Lorca and Moratalla. The reds are made mainly with the Monastrell grape variety, just like the rosés, which gives them a cheerful and Mediterranean character. The whites are made mainly with the Macabeo grape variety.
From Yecla. From our roots. Unapologetically authentic.
We are roots.
We are a family-run, century-old winery, deeply rooted in the traditions of Yecla while embracing an entrepreneurial, innovative spirit.
We are the fourth generation of the Candela family, preceded by our great-grandfather, grandfather, and father. Without them, we would not be who we are today. Since 1850, when Pedro Candela Soriano began making and selling small batches of wine locally, we have dedicated our lives, bodies, and souls to wine. This dedication becomes clear the moment you step through the doors of Bodegas Barahonda.
We embrace innovation and entrepreneurship.
We’re from Yecla and we’re proud of it. This land is one-of-a-kind, and we aim to showcase it alongside world-renowned companies also born and raised in Yecla.
Our bond with Yecla is strong, and we proudly uphold its enterprising and innovative spirit.
We offer a complete experience.
Barahonda is wine, Yecla, gastronomy, and landscape. It’s the love of wine and the joy of tasting, a journey through our roots, history, and winery. Barahonda is a complete experience.
In the middle of the 19th century, the disorders produced in European viticulture by the phylloxera plague caused the rapid expansion of vineyard cultivation in the Jumilla region, which at that time was not a first-rate wine center as it is today. In 1870 and taking advantage of these new circumstances, an enterprising wine broker named Roque Martínez founded, together with two partners, the first commercial winery in Jumilla. His son Pedro Luis Martínez García, all by himself, made the family business prosper during the first half of the following century in such a way that, until today, the name "Pedro Luis Martínez" is synonymous with quality wines, business solvency and commercial honesty. In 1929 his mistelas won the Grand Prize at the Universal Exposition in Barcelona. At that time, the winery could house a total of 300,000 liters of wine, obtained through the procedures of the time: stepping on the grapes in the wine presses, pressing the pomace in vertical presses, and stored and aged in wooden barrels. In 1957 the ownership and management of the winery passed to the next generation. In this period the winery expanded its capacity to reach the capacity of 3,500,000 liters, acquired new buildings, expanded the old ones, and modernized in technical means; belonging to the D.O. JUMILLA since its foundation. In 1983, the company became a Public Limited Company, whose shareholders were entirely direct descendants of the founder. Management remained within the family environment. In 2011 the winery was acquired by the BASTIDA FAMILY, changing the commercial name to Bodega Alceño, and contributing new sap and adapting the wines to the consumer, maintaining the same philosophy of the winery, where investments were made and continue to be made, to adapt the hold to new consumer trends. Currently it has modern winemaking techniques. In recent years, adapting to market times and trends, BODEGAS ALCEÑO S.A. is changing he concept of monovarietal production, as is our indigenous Monastrell variety, and it also produces wines from the blend of varieties such as Tempranillo, Syrah, Garnacha, Garnacha Tintorera, Cabernet Sauvingon, in red wines and Sauvignon blanc, Verdejo, Airen and Macabeo in white wines, not ruling out Rosé, sweet with natural carbonic, etc. and being the first winery in Jumilla to elaborate the first Champanoise Rosé method with Monastrell variety. The current management and technical team of the winery, which has been run since 1997 by the winemaker D. Juan Miguel Benítez García, has not ceased in its efforts to experiment with new wines with which to break firmly and decisively into the national and international market. The result of this effort is the launch of its first bottled wine, made from the Syrah, Tempranillo and Monastrell variety, which is marketed under the name "ALCEÑO", being available in White, Rosé, Red and Selection (the latter, subjected to their refinement in new American and French oak wood), all of them awarded both nationally and internationally by different associations and competitions
BODEGAS CARCHELO, founded in 1990, is a family-run winery located in Jumilla (Murcia), at the foot of the Sierra del Carche Natural Park, which reaches an altitude of 1,371 meters at its highest point.
LOCATION AND CLIMATE
Our inland location on the high plateau, with an average altitude of 600 meters above sea level, combined with the influence of coastal breezes and very low rainfall, creates a warm, dry, Mediterranean-continental climate with strong temperature variations. This climate is tempered by the winds from the Sierra, creating a unique microclimate ideal for grape cultivation.
THE FAMILY
The Abellán Guardiola family has always been involved in the cultivation of grapes, almonds, and olives. The third generation of the family now manages the winery. Professional ethics, respect for the environment, and respect for people are constants in every aspect of our work.
VINEYARDS AND VARIETIES
We cultivate our vineyards organically and sustainably, convinced that nature gives its best when it feels cared for. Monastrell, the queen variety of the Jumilla D.O., is also the predominant variety in our vineyards, although we also cultivate Syrah and Garnacha for reds and Airén, Sauvignon Blanc, and Verdejo for whites. The vineyards are located mainly on slopes, seeking cool exposures with north and northwest orientations and limestone-covered soils with sandy-loam subsoils that are poor in nutrients. In this way, we achieve freshness and concentration in our harvests, which we carry out manually to preserve the quality of our grapes until they arrive at the winery.
OUR WINES
Monastrell is the star of almost all our wines, from fresh, fruit-filled young wines like EYA, CARCHELO, CARCHELO CIENTO80, and CARCHELO ROSADO. We also produce silky and balanced Syrahs like ALTICO. GUARAFÍA is our delicate single-vineyard Garnacha. Don't miss our 100% ungrafted old-vine Monastrell, MURI VETERES. As for the whites, discover a fresh and complex Sauvignon Blanc like CARCHELO BLANCO, a saline CARCHELO ORANGE made from Airén, and our old-vine Airén MINERÍA, with a dense, mineral character and a long and nutty finish. Among our special wines are VINA MARIS SELECTED Red and White, aged underwater for 6 months and 1 year in the Mediterranean Sea, and our artisanal vermouth, CARCHELETO.
Bodegas Castaño is located in Yecla, a mUnicipality that coincides with the wine appellation D.O. Yecla, in the north of Murcia province, with vineyards at altitudes ranging 600-850m above sea level. With a clear innovating spirit, the family has incorporated avant-garde technologies and the latest winemaking systems to keep the legacy of our ancestors alive, their love for the land and an inherited passion for the deeply rooted Monastrell, the king variety in Yecla. A precise work with the indigenous variety Monastrell, our constant experimenting with other varieties and the different soils where our vines are planted in D.O. Yecla have provided a major complexity of aromas and flavours in our wines.
Founded in 1929. Tradition and a vision for the future as the link between agriculture and the customer. An essential and innovative perspective on the world of wine, allowing us to connect with future eras without losing sight of our roots.
Bodegas La Purísima was founded in 1946 by several farmers who joined forces to improve the quality of Yecla wines. Their determination and desire to produce great wines finally led, in 1975, to their receiving the Denomination Origin title. This was a huge achievement for these farmers who, limited by the border of the municipality, registered the Yecla Denomination of Origin nº 27 in line with the prestigious French AOC.
We are situated in the southeast of Spain within the small DO Yecla, (Región de Murcia) just 78 km from the Mediterranean Sea. Mild temperatures in winter and warm summers, perfect conditions for a proper maturation of the grape.
The variety queen of our land is Monastrell, thanks to this exotic grape we create different wines to the rest of Spain (conventional and organic wines). Intensity, deep colour, and powerful aromas are the words that best define our wines. Also, we produce great Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet, Macabeo, Sauvignon Blanc.
We elaborate quality wines, proof of this are the awards obtained from the most important competitions in Europe. Recently silver and gold medals at Mundus Vini in our wines THE EARTH COLLECTION or 91 points Peñin Guide.
Bodegas Viña Elena focuses on producing terroir-driven wines with the variety Monastrell. Wines with character and personality that represent our origin. We are located in the northeast of Murcia, in the region of Jumilla, the original bodega was founded by Grandpa Francisco Pacheco in 1948. Francisco began by making wine in a modest homebased wine press that was later inherited by Paco Pacheco, father to the Pacheco sisters. Paco subsequently expanded the enterprise that is currently in the hands of the third and fourth generations of the Pacheco Family. This young team continue to run their wine business with the passion of their forebears, combining tradition with innovation to highlight the knowledge they have gained from their ancestors while contributing their own pioneering, contemporary knowledge about the winemaking process. "Following tradition, while looking to the future" This heading represents our whole philosophy: constantly moving towards the future, always innovating, while valuing the family legacy, tradition, and hereditary know-how.
