Skye’s Chardonnay 2023 continues the quiet evolution of one of England’s most characterful still wines. Grown across Kent’s distinctive soils, from the flinty clarity of chalk to the soft warmth of green sand and structure of clay, this wine is a study in balance, purity and poise.
Made without oak and aged for seven months on full fermentation lees with regular bâtonnage, it is shaped by time and touch rather than wood. A full malolactic fermentation, combined with a careful blend of nine yeast strains, lends a creamy weight and depth, while preserving a vivid citrus core.
The result is a medium-bodied Chardonnay of striking elegance – bright and mineral-driven, with notes of soft apple, white blossom and fresh lemon. Eight months in bottle has allowed its texture to knit together beautifully, delivering a wine that is both subtle and confident, English in freshness but Burgundian in intention.
Pale gold in colour. The nose opens with citrus zest, white flowers and soft orchard fruit, layered with subtle lees-derived richness. The palate is creamy and textural with perfectly integrated acidity and a long, precise mineral finish..
